Quantum Computing

Reiternavigation

Within the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft, the topic of quantum computing is mainly driven and implemented by the “Competence Network Quantum Computing”. The Fraunhofer ICT Group uses these structures to develop software innovations and hybrid solutions in quantum computing.

The quantum computing market is growing strongly and is developing dynamically:

  • 2021: total volume of the global market around 1.1 billion US dollars
  • Market volume could rise to around USD 7.6 billion in 2027

The area is also exciting due to the many unanswered research questions and the long development horizon.

Priorities

  • Software-related topics of quantum computing
  • Quantum simulation and quantum AI (algorithms)
  • Software for quantum computers (higher programming languages, middleware, programming, API, compiler)
  • Hardware-software co-design
  • Security aspects, e.g. post-quantum cryptography
  • Benchmarking and Industrial Quantum Advantage
  • Partially: Quantum communication, e.g. for critical infrastructure or control rooms
