Open Source Software

Open source software is a general potential topic for the Fraunhofer Society. Open source is a driver of innovation and de facto standardization. It provides access to expanded developer pools and paves the way for strategic alliances.

Priorities

  • Bring open source out of the gray area: from mere tolerance to active support
  • Build expertise and networks
    • Establish, shape, and guide open-source communities and technologies
  • Ensure utilization of open-source activities
  • Clarify the relationship to traditional patenting and licensing
